Biographies for the creative team behind Black Maria.
Susie Crow - Choreographer
Susie Crow trained in Oxford with Beryl Jackson and June Christian and at the Royal Ballet Upper School. She danced for 12 years with the Royal Ballet and Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet, becoming a soloist, and is now an independent choreographer and teacher. She has made ballets for Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet, Dance Advance, National Youth Dance Company among others, and has twice been a finalist in the Madrid Choreographic Competition. She has an MA in Dance Studies, and works in partnership with Jennifer Jackson on Ballet Independents' Group projects including choreographic courses and research, and the BIG Discussion Forum. Now based in Oxford she choreographs and teaches for both students and professionals; projects include Ballet in Small Spaces (BiSS) with performances at Pegasus Theatre, Holywell Music Room and for St. Edward’s Arts Programme. Susie first collaborated with composer Tom Armstrong on FIBBA, National Youth Ballet’s Millenium Commission. She is currently taking leave of absence from her work as Course Leader on the Institute of Education’s Part Time PGCE Performing Arts (Post Compulsory) to work again with Tom and Zara on Black Maria. Forthcoming plans include curating an evening of solos at the Burton Taylor Studio Theatre in Oxford.
